THE MIGHTY LEMON DROPS
INSIDE OUT: 1985-90
CHERRY RED
★★★
Unlikely C86 veterans – the brusque Happy Head gave their debut its name – Wolverhampton’s Mighty Lemon Drops released the three albums on this 5CD set via Geoff Travis’ Blue Guitar label in the 80s’ second half. The first, not least Like An Angel, found a Byrdsian common ground between The Teardrop Explodes and Echo And The Bunnymen, while World Without End’s refined sound hit the UK Top 40, with the sparkling, Smiths-esque Crystal Clear a highlight. 1989’s Laughter targeted the US, but two discs of bonus material compensate.
