A LONG GOODBYE
October 2025 FlyPast reflects on the final flying season of Avro Vulcan XH558 a decade ago now, and delves deeper in the regular ‘Classics’ section, looking back at the history of the famous delta type. Certainly, the word ‘iconic’ is overused in many walks of life, but there’s no denying that the Vulcan – and particularly XH558 – was genuinely an icon. We celebrate its legacy ten years after that poignant farewell.

HUNTER HEROICS
As a tribute to a daring aviator, we revisit the late Alan Pollock’s extraordinary account of threading a Hawker Hunter through Tower Bridge

BEST IN SHOW
Airshow regulars have happy memories of seeing Kevin Rumens displaying Vulcan XH558. We get Kev’s own recollections of those days

JET AGAINST JET
Lionel Reid continues his gripping account of how South African Air Force Mirage pilots tried to take on MiG-23s over Angola

HUCKNALL HAVEN
Jeremy Flack describes the recently opened Hucknall Flight Test Museum in which a dedicated team showcases the site’s achievements

SPITFIRE FLIGHT
Editor Tom Allett visited Goodwood where a lucky FlyPast competition winner took a dream flight in a two-seat Spitfire

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
