Part 3: The Great Upcycling Challenge
If your budget is more shabby than chic, the thought of kitting your home out with designer one-off pieces can seem like a faraway fantasy. Or is it? Two of our esteemed HomeStyle designers, Juliet Bawden and Amanda Russell, have joined forces this issue to demonstrate how easy it is to transform cheap buys into pieces that are worthy of a boutique price tag. This isn’t just upcycling – this is luxe-cycling, and boy, have they done a spectacular job. Starting with their charity shop sweep, Juliet and Amanda picked up a second-hand cabinet, two old luggage racks and a whole range of picture frames, and still had change from £40 – just goes to show how far your money can stretch when you shop outside the box! Then they hit the high street and selected three budget buys from Matalan, Home base and Ikea to work their fabulous magic on. You can vote for your favourite set by tweeting #charity shop sweep or and tell us which project you liked best.
