EIGHT OF THE BEST COLOURFUL PENCILS
Discrete, petite and unbelievably sweet – any peaceful tank can be elevated by Pencilfish. So what even are Pencilfish? At a taxonomic level they are characins – the same order as Neon tetras, Characidium and Piranha, among many others. That means in many ways they’re ‘traditional’, with a forward-facing mouth filled with sharp teeth, are active throughout the daytime, like to live in shoals, and have all the fins you’d expect to find on a fish – with the exception of the adipose fin, the fleshy ‘non-fin’ that sits between the dorsal (top) and caudal (tail) fin of other characins.
