Your Dog  |  July 2025
I’m writing this just as we’re finishing putting this issue together. As I reflect on it, I really hope you find the content inspirational – in varying senses of the word.
Firstly, our lead feature is an interview with Lucy Heath. She has been a long-time friend of the magazine ever since she first appeared on Britain’s Got Talent. Lucy has put heelwork to music and trick training in the spotlight and been an advocate for positive, reward-based methods. After finally becoming a champion at Crufts this year, she opens up in this interview about her journey which has been far from easy. It’s uplifting because for all the success she has enjoyed, you’ll see how it’s always been about spending quality time with her dogs.
On the other end of the scale, we’ve got a piece on pet loss. I still think society is catching up on the impact losing a pet has on us. In the feature, an expert counsellor explains how the process of grief impacts us and how, for some, it can be a process we struggle to come out the other side of. Andrew has set up a dedicated service to help people turn inevitable grief into ‘good grief.’ One which allows us to mourn the loss of our pet but we can cherish them while being able to still live life to the fullest. If it inspires just one person who is struggling with the loss of a canine best friend, then these printed pages have been so worthwhile.
Finally, we’ve got a focus on walking in this issue. We’ve got ways to make your regular dog walks more rewarding, inspiration for taking guided dog walks, and plenty of ideas of special places you and your dog can go for a walk, including museums! I hope it helps you make more of getting out, particularly now the weather has picked up, with your four-legged walking buddy!
