POWER COMPLEX
ENERGY secretary Ed Miliband says there is “transformative potential” in the “cross-Atlantic partnership” between British Gas owner Centrica and US firm X-Energy to launch a fleet of small modular reactors (SMRs).
Centrica says it wants to build 12 X-Energy SMRs next to Hartlepool’s existing nuclear power station. Miliband and PM Keir Starmer backed the deal, announced during Donald Trump’s visit to show “US and UK businesses joining forces”, while US energy secretary Chris Wright said the plan was for “commercial nuclear to meet rising energy demand and fuel the AI revolution” by helping to power energy-hungry data warehouses.
