THERE were smiles all round at the Gwili Railway on July 31, as the Carmarthenshire line welcomed Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns 0-6-0ST No. 47 Moorbarrow (7849/1955) back into revenue-earning service.
The former Backworth Colliery locomotive has been the subject of a 10-yearly overhaul; its first at the railway since arriving there in December 2015. The project has largely been carried out ‘in house’ at Bronwydd Arms over the course of the last 2½ years, the exception being the boiler, which was sent away to HA McEwen’s boiler works at Keighley in early 2019.
