RAVENGLASS & Eskdale Railway’s July 10/11 gala celebrated the 60th anniversary of the line being saved in 1960 to enable it to enter preservation –a year later than envisaged due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Locomotives in action included recently overhauled Clarkson 2-8-2 River Mite which, being built in 1966 can lay claim to being the first new-build steam locomotive in the preservation era, and the reconstructed Heywood 0-4-0T Katie. Diesels also appeared, with Lister 0-4-0DM Cyril and rebuilt Muir Hill 0-4-4DM Perkins making rare appearances working passenger trains. Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway’s Krupp 4-6-2 No. 11 Black Prince, recently overhauled by John Fowler Engineering in Bouth, also participated.
