John Murry and Cowboy Junkies’ Michael Timmins on writing the music for a new film about… John Murry!
“I DIDN’T even know we were making a record,” John Murry admits of his new collaboration with Cowboy Junkies’ Michael Timmins for A Little Bit Of Grace And Decay, which accompanies an extraordinary documentary, The Graceless Age: The Ballad Of John Murry.
“I’d been working on the score here in Toronto,” explains Timmins, who’d previously produced Murry on 2017’s A Short History Of Decay, “then John happened to be in town to do some filming for the documentary. So we got together, with me recording him playing songs acoustically, for no real reason. But I thought there were some very interesting, full and honest performances, so I got the idea of combining them with this soundscape I’d done, and have them feed off each other.”
