CutBank is published by a team at the University of Montana and includes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art submissions. They publish a weekly piece of flash prose and poetry, an annual All Accounts and Mixture: A Celebration of LGBTQ Writers and Artists and various contests.
For the print magazine the team ask that writers read the work online to understand what they want to publish. Fiction and non-fiction should be limited to 8,500 words. Poetry ‘should be uploaded as one file, with page breaks between poems.’ Submit no more than five poems. Visual art should be uploaded as jpg, tiff or pdf files of at least 300 dpi. All types of visual art are welcomed. Submit no more than five high quality files and include an artist biography. The team are happy to accept simultaneous submissions but not reprints or multiple subs. They read blind so do not include contact info in the document, but be sure to list it in the cover letter. Deadline is 1 February. Response time is ‘typically 3 to 6 months.’ All contributors are paid.
