As we bid farewell to another summer, it’s the perfect time to plan those last-minute dog-friendly getaways. In this issue, Andrea McHugh highlights stunning retreats, ideal for a late summer escape with your dog(s). Discover charming camping pods in North Wales and a chic dog-friendly hotel in the Peak District (page 14). And for those with dogs who aren’t the best travellers, Toni Shelbourne shares invaluable tips to make journeys more comfortable for your canine companion (page 54).
This month, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Tony Cruse to discuss ways to help nervous dogs. Often, what we perceive as misbehaviour is actually fear. Tony provides insights on identifying triggers and practising coping strategies to reassure your dog (page 44).
Considering a new addition to your family? Our breed feature this month focuses on the delightful Border Terrier (page 36). These friendly little dogs might be just what you’re looking for.
Don’t miss our stunning dog photo gallery at sunset (page 12), showcasing your beautiful submissions. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for the next gallery announcement – your dog might be featured in an upcoming issue!
In our ‘Me and My Dog’ feature, Joanne Bednall shares the heartwarming story of Bob, a Bearded Collie who transformed from a sad, traumatised rescue into a happy, confident pet (page 20). Stories like Bob’s remind us of the incredible potential rescue dogs have in a loving home. If you’re considering adopting, check out the rescue dogs waiting for their forever homes (page 52).
We also have a special focus on puppies this month. The Kennel Club’s Be Puppywise campaign tackles the issue of rogue puppy traders and Jackie Drakeford offers a guide to navigating those early, delightful
yet challenging puppy days (page 48). Being well-prepared is crucial when welcoming a new puppy into your life.
