Born in Hull, many of Henry Redmore’s (1820-87) works depict shipping in the Humber estuary, off the Yorkshire coast and in the harbours of Whitby and Scarborough.
This typical Victorian oil of boats on choppy seas, above, titled Shipping off Whitby, signed and dated 1874, provided the highpoint of David Duggleby’s (21% buyer’s premium) sale in Scarborough on March 17. With a provenance to the Omell Galleries of Bury Street in St James’s, it sold at £4300.
