How it began
Since forming in 1961 as the result of an amalgamation of Ayr Athletic Club, formed in 1932, and Seaforth Athletic Club, formed in 1958, Ayr Seaforth have held a permanent residence at Dam Park Stadium to this day. In 1974, the club affiliated with local club Ayrshire Athletic Club in order to strengthen their road running section. By 1978 Ayr Seaforth was reborn in its own right. With an initial membership of 60, the club’s numbers had rocketed to a 468 by 1982. After a lull in the 1990s, the club saw an increase in numbers following the London Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. There’s currently a waiting list with around 50 young people in the queue.
