The
genre doesn’t even have a name, which is an oddity in music where someone is always quick to categorise anything that moves.
Around 1988, when this genre emerged, the most accurate description was “the dance rock crossover.” Which was, frankly, just too bland and fleeting, and nowhere near as weighty as it should have been. So I’m going to christen it right now: Intergalactic Punk Rock Hip-Hop.
