Aside from 2020’s Self Civil War, Julian Cope has largely retreated from anything resembling tunes since his properly adventurous Peggy Suicide album 32 years ago.
With Cope long lost to ley lines and dronerock, a boxset of his old band is a welcome reminder of how he once wrote songs that were powerful enough to enable him to front a band featuring such forceful personalities as Blur mentor Dave Balfe and manager/KLF godhead Bill Drummond.
