On the day when England beat Sweden to reach the World Cup semi-final, it should have been hard for The Cure not to take advantage of such a celebratory atmosphere. Except that, of course, The Cure in their most sombre mood could easily have ushered fans into bleaker territory; most famously the Trilogy tour of a decade ago, which comprised their darkest albums Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers.
