I’m on Instagram, scrolling through pictures of a tall, handsome doctor I’ve never met. He’s blond, toned, and good-looking in a way that’s a little bit alienating to me. Back when I used to date guys – before I came out as gay – none of them looked like that. One thing is for sure, though: Tall Handsome Doctor and I would make nice babies.
Tall Handsome Doctor is a friend of a friend. He’s – I’ve been told – a gay guy looking for a lesbian couple to co-parent with. My partner, Leo, and I are in a funny place baby-wise. We can see ourselves starting a family in the next few years, and yet, “Why can’t human babies be as cute as kittens?” is a genuine question Leo just asked me. I suppose we’re looking over our options – one of which is procuring sperm off someone we know (or a friend of a friend…). And nothing has changed the way I look at men quite like seeing them as potential dads.
