As I stand here naked, in front of you, I wonder what you see. I feel your eyes glancing back and forth, and I see you smile, and I think to myself, you see my body, my complicated, beautiful trans body, but what else do you see?

Do you see what I see when I look in the mirror, do you see the battles I’ve fought on this pale freckled landscape, or do you see something else? Do you see something more, or something less? I have a good relationship with my body. Just reading those words though, reminds me of times when I didn’t. For most of my teenage years onwards my body didn’t feel like mine. I covered it up, I refused to be photographed, I hid it as much as I could. I didn’t want the way I looked to be recorded, I didn’t want to be reminded of what I was. I didn’t want to see what I was.
