Tearjerkers

“Emotions have their uses.” Can the newly resurrected Time Team hold it together long enough to watch three of Doctor Who’s most moving episodes?

THE TIME TEAM

It’s tissues at the ready for Luke, Sam, Dan, Miles, Claudia and Zainab as they watch three emotionally charged episodes of Doctor Who.

This issue’s Time Team: Claudia Boleyn, Dan James Frank, Luke Cutforth, Miles Hall, Sam Saffold and Zainab Sheriff

Ask yourself: when did you last have the pleasure of smelling a flower, watching a sunset, eating a well-prepared meal?

“Tuesday,” says Zainab, chomping down on a Jammie Dodger.

“When was Mother’s Day?” asks Miles. “Plenty of flowers then. But a well-prepared meal? I mean, um, student life…”

Fellow student Sam sympathises: “It’s been 84 years.”

“For some people, small, beautiful events is what life is all about,” the Doctor once said. But don’t tell Doctor Who Magazine’s fresh-faced Time Team. They know what life’s all about. It’s about meeting up in Lambeth on a Monday afternoon, to watch three of Doctor Who’s most emotional episodes. It’s about Doctor Who plunging its figurative hand into the Time Team’s collective chests, crushing their beating hearts into a shapeless wad and packing the remains into a cybernetic chest unit.

Or sunsets. Sunsets are great too.

Tissues at the ready, let’s find out if a TV show known for its monsters and spaceships – and its bigger-on-the-inside, timey-wimey narratives – can move a bunch of 90s kids with a noble sacrifice, a sad farewell and a giant, invisible chicken in a church. Assume the position. Brace for impact.
