Jack Crawford nailing the colours to the mast
The home town of a young hero has launched a search to find the flag he used to help secure one of the Navy’s greatest victories, the Battle of Camperdown in 1797.
At the height of the battle, 22-year-old Jack Crawford from Sunderland nailed the flag (or colours) to HMS Venerable’s mast – and changed the course of history.
