The former Countryfile presenter, documentary maker and walking enthusiast Julia Bradbury opens up to HFG about her new campaign to encourage us to get out and about

Julia, 47, lives in London with her partner Gerard, son Zephyr, six, and two-year-old twin daughters Xanthe and Zena.

Q You’re fronting a new health campaign called Thirst for the Great Outdoors to encourage families to spend more time outside. Can you tell us more about it? ‘I think it’s incredibly important for kids to spend time outdoors. You don’t have to be up a mountain – the back garden or the park will do. It’s good for your physical and mental health and overall wellbeing. My dad Michael’s a real outdoors enthusiast and when I was growing up in Sheffield and Rutland he would always get me out walking at every opportunity. He introduced me to the Peak District, which was just 10 minutes out of Sheffield. I’ve got wonderful memories of playing in the snow with him, building snow bunnies and igloos. It was Dad who awakened my love of the great outdoors – my mum was the one who met us in the car park with the picnic.
