1945 A CITY IN RUINS

During three days in February 1945, the German city of Dresden suffered some of the worst bombing of World War II. Allied bombing raids took place between 13 and 15 February, destroying much of the city once known as ‘Florence on the Elbe’. More than 25,000 civilians are believed to have been killed during the raids, many of them women and children fleeing the horrors of the Eastern Front.
