FIRST FAMILY SNAP AT STONEHENGE

A photo be the that earliest is believed family to shot taken at Stonehenge has been unearthed. The image - dating to 1875 - was discovered after English Heritage, which manages the site, issued a call-out for holiday photos that had been taken at Stonehenge over the years, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ancient Wiltshire monument being in public hands.

More than 1,000 photographs were sent in, but it was images of the Routh family that stood out. One image shows the group sitting amongst the stones with a picnic blanket while another features a horse-drawn carriage with the impressive stones in the background.
