After an incredible Olympic Games, Team GB’s gold medal-winning eventing team has been recognised with MBEs in the New Year Honours list. Laura Collett, Tom McEwen and Oliver Townend were honoured for winning the first eventing team gold since 1972. Despite it being an Olympic debut for all three riders, they pulled off record-breaking score of 86.30.
Para-dressage riders Sophie Wells and Natasha Baker were awarded OBEs for their performances at the paralympics, too. Alongside teammate Sir Lee Pearson, they secured a team gold, marking a seventh consecutive gold for Team GB. British Equestrian Chief Executive Jim Eyre said: “We’re exceptionally proud of our athletes and their performances this summer, which exceeded all expectations [in] the most trying of circumstances. To be honoured in this way is further tribute to their achievements as well as being ambassadors for equestrian sport and inspiring others.”
