The lowland streaked tenrec (Hemicentetes semispinosus) is a longsnouted insectivore that looks like a dipped-dyed cross between a shrew and a hedgehog. It’s native to Madagascar and spends its time stomping on the ground of tropical rainforests to attract earthworms to the surface. The small mammals are covered in barbed black-and-yellow quills for defence against predators.
