Inside Crochet  |  Issue 102
We are very excited by the bright and bold projects in this month's dazzling issue!
Geometric prints and patterns abound on the catwalks this summer and luckily for us, crochet lends itself extremely well to stripes and patterning of all kinds. Our cover project demonstrates this perfectly and is made by the inimitable designer Katie Jones, who has inspired us with her fun textiles and focus on sustainability since her Central St Martin's graduate collection. It is so exciting to showcase her gorgeous kimono in this issue - an extremely colourful yet wearable and simple to make project. Granny stitches are so easy to hook, yet can create fabulous textures and shapes.
If you aren't quite brave enough to try all-over colour and pattern, why not make one of our smaller projects? These range from cute hexagon motifs ideal for upcycling to beautiful, bold designs that utilise new and interesting stitches and techniques to create wonderful lines and texture. Rosina Northcott's shawl uses a crochet brioche stitch to form striking monochrome stripes, while Linda Skuja's wrap mixes her signature short row shaping with three-dimensional puff stitches and a graded yarn. And if that's all got you hooked on pattern, our feature by Tracey Todhunter on page 34 demonstrates how you can use stitch dictionaries to create your own beautiful designs, full of pattern and texture, and while you are there, you can hook her lovely scarf, inspired by a stitch found in just such a compendium. Finally, I mustn't forget to mention this month's fun free gifts. The cute ice cream stitch marker was the inspiration for a charming booklet of ice cream themed patterns from some wonderful designers. Make mine a 99, with a flake of course!
Happy crocheting!
