Magical mystery tour

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND

In the original Harry Potter books, America was hardly mentioned; for the new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (out on 18 November), JK Rowling has been busy filling in this blank on the magical map. But while Eddie Redmayne plays a British wizard in 1920s New York, film location fans can stay this side of the Atlantic. Liverpool doubles as the Big Apple for much of the film: Unesco-World-Heritage-listed Cunard Building, Royal Liver Building and St George’s Hall have starring roles, the last as the ‘Magical Congress of the United States of America’.
