Hawker centres in Singapore

ICON

If your idea of dining hell is to sit on plastic chairs in a crowded, neon-lit food court, let a trip to Singapore change your mind. The city-state’s hawker centres are the best place to test out the competing specialities of the Chinese, Malay and Indian communities. Whether you’re into noodles, satay or biryani, you’ll have plenty of company, as one in four Singaporeans eat out every day. In 2019, these food courts were put forward for Unesco recognition as intangible cultural heritage.
