The Albert Dock has seen lots of transatlantic traffc – from cargo ships importing sugar, tobacco and cotton from the New World, to Royal Navy vessels bound for mid-Atlantic battles. This summer, the tradition continues with the departure of the Clipper Round the World yacht race – a 6,000 mile odyssey whose first leg sees sailing boats setting a course for Uruguay. Once they’ve vanished over the horizon, make for the dock’s Merseyside Maritime Museum for exhibits on Scouse seafaring history. Afterwards, lay anchor at Camp and Furnace – an event space in an old dockside warehouse that hosts pop-up restaurants at weekends and a lively bar through the week.
