BRADY DEEPROSE: PRESS & COURTESY OF BRADY. DEBBIE GOUGH: WILL IRELAND
“Scuzz was always on the telly in my house, and I saw Slipknot on there. I didn’t know what it was, but even my dad knew that was Slipknot, because they were such a big influence on that music. At the time I couldn’t quite grasp just how heavy it was. I would have to skip the first few tracks when I had it on CD, because I wasn’t introduced to that world at all. Obviously it’s funny to think back on that, but at the time it was definitely the heaviest record I’d ever listened to, especially with the guitars being tuned down that low and that much aggression.
“We play in drop Aand we definitely tune that low as a direct influence of Slipknot. Some of our more industrial elements come from the weirder side of Slipknot as well. Julian [Gage], our drummer, especially is super-influenced by Joey Jordison on that record. He was crushed when Joey passed away, as we all were, but he’s still got his signature Joey Jordison snare, which he uses.
