In Prog 153, Leprous frontman Einar Solberg downplayed the progressive credentials of their latest album, Melodies Of Atonement. However, in support of their eighth LP, they’ve pulled back on the number of tour dates they’re playing across Europe in favour of fewer, more focused ‘Evening with’ performances. In doing so, they’ve doubled down on their most progressive characteristics, and it doesn’t feel like a coincidence.
Of the six songs aired –with grace and aplomb –from that record tonight, not one feels out of place among the career-spanning setlist. In fact, as Leprous dive deep into their back catalogue, they represent shining lights across an exhaustive near-threehour performance, it’s clear that the band have outgrown some of their formative compositions. They’ve consistently hit new heights, and their most ambitious touring cycle to date is testament to that.
