Voted third Best Bassist in this magazine’s 2024 Readers’ Poll, Jonas Reingold has released Transmutation, Karmakanic’s sixth studio album, in between extensive tour duties with Steve Hackett. Prog spoke to Reingold to discover how he gathered together its spectacular starry cast from across two continents.

“It’s great to look at the calendar and have gigs all year. If I can fit in some Karmakanic gigs in between, I am happy to do so.”

Swedish bass maestro Jonas Reingold is very content when Prog catches up with him at his Vienna base. For Transmutation, his sixth studio album as Karmakanic, he’s assembled a prodigious array of musicians and engineers –which he describes as the “Real Madrid of prog” –to realise his latest recording adventure.
“This is my contribution to this little universe we’re currently inhabiting,” he declares. “It’s my chance to have my voice heard in the way I compose, the way I arrange and put things together, and my choice of musicians.
