Nicola Adams

The double gold-winning Olympic boxer, Nicola Adams, talks about her drive to win, respect for her mum and why she likes to play Call Of Duty before a fight

shared values

I have always wanted to win. Even as a child on school sports days, I had to win everything – coming second has never been good enough for me. I even have to win at Monopoly!

Muhammad Ali is my hero. My dad was a big fan of boxing, and we’d watch Ali fights together. I was so struck, even as a little girl, with his charm and charisma, his poetry and footwork. I remember thinking, ‘I want to do that. I want to win a gold medal at the Olympics.’ I was always aiming that high.
