NICK DRNASO’S Man Booker Prize inalist Sabrina, Julie Maroh’s lesbian romance Blue Is the Warmest Color, and Alan Moore’s seminal superhero deconstruction Watchmen are among the titles that greet curious browsers at the Canadian Comics Open Library, a volunteer non-proit aiming to build a diverse collection of comics. The project’s founder, Rotem Anna Diamant, likes to have as many covers front facing as possible. “It’s like having artwork on your shelves,” she says admiringly.
Aesthetics aren’t the only reason the collection is so thoughtfully displayed. “It dispels a lot of the myths about comics,” she says. “That they are only about a limited number of topics.”
