Build more Mk.1s to secure the future of traditional operations
MAY I suggest that one of the leasing companies, such as Porterbrook or Angel Trains, might consider commissioning a batch of new Mk.1 coaches, possibly 40 or 50 vehicles?
The basic design would be retained, with a main batch of SOs (Standard Opens) and some BSKs (Brake Standard Corridor). The structural design of the ends could be redesigned to provide greater strength, and they could be fitted with air and vacuum brakes and possibly steam and electric heating. There could be retention toilets and central door locking fitted from new.
