TECH TITANS SINCLAIR
We rank the best (and worst) from Sir Clive’s brain
01 ZX SPECTRUM
Initially dubbed the ZX82, Sinclair’s breakthrough micro-computer was renamed the Spectrum before launch – because, unlike its predecessors, it had graphics packed with vivid colour. The case was even emblazoned with a rainbow stripe to drive the message home.
Also giving the machine a distinct vibe was the ‘dead flesh’ rubber keyboard – a far cry from the typewriter keys found on Ataris and Commodores from the US. Still, no one cared when blasting through a few levels of a favourite game.
