Mother’s Day
Mothering Sunday, known as Mother’s Day in the US, is a day to celebrate and honour all of the hard work that our mums do for us every day. It stems from the Christian tradition of visiting your ‘mother church’ (your local church or the one at which you were baptised) on the fourth Sunday in Lent, which is the 11th March this year. Somewhere between the mid- 16th century and modern day, the tradition of visiting your mother church morphed into the tradition of celebrating all mothers and Mothering Sunday as we know it was born.
