Over-staffed yet under-performing, DEFRA assures us that the issues they handle are so highly complex, that they can never be resolved, just managed, and that mere citizens simply do not understand. What we do understand, and it doesn’t take much research to find evidence, is that DEFRA serves the constantly lossmaking, politically-powerful farming fraternity above all other concerns. This article will discuss the encouragement of poor farming practices and DEFRA’s pseudoscientific badger culls.
Farming practices cause flooding
Modern intensive farming practices such as dredging rivers, filling in bogs and marshes and raising river banks may not seem so problematic at first glance, however, when you consider that this is happening on farms all over the country to protect and expand farmers’ fields, the scale of the impact becomes clear. Removing woodland, scrubland and waterbodies reduces the amount of time it takes for rain water to reach the rivers in times of excess rainfall.
