HAVE YOUR SAY
I just wanted to write in to say how useful I found your article in the April issue, ‘10 Easy Ways to Avoid Injury’. I took up running just over a year ago and managed to build up to compete in the Bristol Half in September followed by the Great South Run in October. Stupidly, I did not take proper care of my legs. That, combined with the amount of running I was doing, meant that since November last year I really struggled with problems with both my Achilles tendons. After regular massage and shock wave treatment, I have just been given the allclear to run again. I’ve got a number of races planned over the next six months, building up to the Bournemouth Marathon in October, and I’m determined not to aggravate the injury. So, I’ll be sure to put in place as many of the tips as possible, starting with a trip to my local running shop to double check whether my trainers really are the right ones. I’ll then be building up the distances slowly, taking part in regular strength training and, most of all, stretching. Thanks for the tips and fingers crossed I’ll remain injury free and can nail that marathon!
