The surviving manuscript of George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel 1984 has been published in a bound limited edition by SP Books. The text, which is the only substantial Orwell manuscript to survive, includes pages that the author discarded. A foreward has been written by Orwell biographer DJ Taylor, whose biography will appear in 2023.
Harriet Evans, Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin, Abie Longstaff and Nicholas Rankin have been elected to the Society of Authors’ Board. They took their seats after the SoA’s AGM on 17 November, joining Charles Harris, Dorothy Koomson, Juliet McKenna, Anne Rooney, Hugh Roberts, Margaret Skea, Tim Tate, Philip Womack and SoA Management Committee Chair Joanne Harris, who was unanimously re-elected Chair in January 2022 and will serve until 2024.
