lynsey designed the kitchen herself. The stripped back floorboards work well with the traditional-style white units. The dark walls stand out against the white and wood to complete the look
Most decorating and home renovations can take some time, but when Lynsey Jean Henderson moved into her tenement flat in Leith in 2004, she had to wait 10 years before starting work on her home. ‘I’ve lived here for 12 years as I was lucky that my parents put down a deposit for me on this place when I was 20,’ explains Lynsey. After graduating from the Edinburgh College of Art, she set up her own boutique art and design studio and has been creating beautiful hand-printed wallpapers and bespoke murals ever since. ‘At 20 I was too young to really appreciate what was being given to me and how much responsibility comes with owning your own home,’ says Lynsey. But what she did know straight away was that this was the flat for her. ‘I remember feeling at home as soon as I walked into the flat. It was just a gut feeling, which was good as it was in a financially affordable area, something that was a main factor in the choice of properties available,’ she says.
