HISTORY tends to remembers champions and not the absentees. So Omar McLeod of Jamaica will be forever known as the Olympic champion of 2016.

Take Sergey Shubenkov, for example, the world champion who was missing due to the general ban on Russia. Or reigning Olympic champion Aries Merritt and his US team-mate and 2013 world champion David Oliver.
Maybe their absence contributed to the winning time of 13.05 being the slowest since 1992. Perhaps McLeod would have won anyway.
