Shooting, stalking, fishing, hunting, gundog handling, art, gun reviews...it's all covered in this issue.
And the lead feature: the list that every game Shot wants to be on, we select driven shooting's best of the best. The Fieldsports First XV nominate their favourite shoots and share invaluable tips on tackling high gliding pheasants. We could have easily added others, but we had to draw a line somewhere and having seen all of the chosen Shots in action in the shooting field, we can vouch for their supreme quality. It makes for a fascinating read.
Elsewhere we report on days at Winwoods in Shropshire, Swinton Park in Yorkshire and a 60th birthday celebration at Rossie Ochil in Perthshire, while Rupert Godfrey considers a sporting quandary – High or low partridges. Which is best?
We look at two manufacturing designs that have stood the test the time and set a precedent in the realms of gunmaking: the Boss & Co over-under and the Mauser 98 action. Simon Ward and Ed Lyons offer advice on how to improve your shooting this season and we analyse a survey undertaken by GunsOnPegs and Strutt & Parker which reveals some interesting shooting facts.
We introduce our three winners of the Really Wild Face of Fieldsports competition and launch the next Belvoir Fieldsports 12-20 Club event – an all encompassing shoot day experience for 10-16-year-olds.
On the fishing front, Matt Harris returns to Kau Tapen in Tierra del Fuego and grapples with some truly monster sea trout, while Marcus Janssen contends with Caribbean temperatures and low water when salmon fishing in County Mayo.
Ben Randall explains how to get started in field trialling and Robert Preston looks at the art of picking-up. Guest chef Valentine Warner shares a venison curry recipe, Mike Barnes meets BASC CEO Richard Ali and Charlie Berridge goes in pursuit of his first red stag in the Highlands. And much more!
