In the first event of its kind for Lochaber, Police Scotland hosted a ‘conversation café’ at the Nevis Centre, Fort William, yesterday (Wednesday).
The event was a joint initiative between Police Scotland, Lochaber Chamber of Commerce and Fergusons Transport to help communities discuss and gain greater understanding of issues such as drug/alcohol abuse and mental health, the impact on business and employment and the work currently being carried out by partners and the third sector throughout Lochaber. There is considerable work being undertaken locally and it was hoped this event would promote this and raise awareness, while providing information, assistance and support around these topics and how they are impacting on communities.
In a statement to publicise the event, a Highlands and Islands Police Division spokesperson said: ‘These are real issues in Lochaber. Taking the time to inform everyone what support is available may contribute to different choices being made.’
