GIVEN that
The Running Man
is one of four films out in cinemas this year based on the writings of Stephen King, it’s hard to believe that initially conventional wisdom was that King’s books didn’t translate well to the big screen. A De Palma, Kubrick or Cronenberg could make something of his often hefty tomes, but everybody else fell short.
Two short story adaptations, Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption, changed the perception of King’s filmability, and now Hollywood has been adapting King for so long and in such quantity that many King tales are on to their first remake. In the 80s, Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in a very loose adaptation of The Running Man, but now British director Edgar Wright has delivered a far more faithful version, starring the hottest new leading man, Glen Powell.
