Vintage Rock  |  Mar/Apr 2020
60 years ago this April Eddie Cochran lost his life in a tragic car crash in Chippenham, England. In this issue of Vintage Rock we pay tribute to the great American rock'n'roller himself, and explore his game-changing influence on the UK music scene.
With the help of exclusive interviews with Cochran biographer and rockabilly guitarist Darrel Higham, as well as an esteemed cast of Cochran's peers and band members, including Vince Eager and Brian 'Licorice' Locking, we remember Eddie's life, his music, and his incredible legacy.
With his recent passing, we also remember the immense talents of 50s rock'n'roll legend Jack Scott via our classic album feature on his eponymous debut album, plus, we examine the life of another star of the era, Clyde Phatter – a founding member of The Drifters and a huge influence on the main players of soul and R&B ever since.
More celebrations inside too. First off, to toast Elvis Presley's 85th birthday, we chat with Elvis fan club founder and Queen of Rock'n'Bop Kay Wheeler about her memories of the King, plus it's 60 years since Joe Brown first made his mark at the infamous 2is coffee shop in Soho, and we toast the Brit rock'n'roll icon with an exclusive interview with the inimitable star.
This coming year is looking like a fantastic year for rock'n'roll and inside we preview the coming 12 months of releases and live shows, as well as offering up our hot tips for new talent. We also sit down with Big Boss Mama Tami Neilson to chat about her new album and a life on the road, we review Wildest Cats' rampant November weekender, and there's all the usual news and reviews!
Enjoy the issue!
