THE DOCTOR will see you now…

Self-confessed ‘dinosaur kid’ and CrossFit athlete Francesc Gascó is a man that doesn’t quite fit in a box. If he’s not tearing it up at the gym or on the pages of Men’s Health Spain, then he’s deep in the world of science, with a PhD in palaeontology. Now living in Madrid, the Valenciaborn 32-year-old has been on a radical journey from out of shape teen to, well, sexy dinosaur scientist! So naturally, we took some pictures of him on the beach and had a chat about fitness and body image. Wouldn’t you?

“To be objectified is just what happens,” boldly dismisses Francesc in response to our questioning of the inevitable attention he now gets from guys. “I won’t lie to you, the first time it happens it makes you feel good! I never had this attention how I was before and almost want to say ‘thank you’ back. After that, it’s down to you to show there’s more to you than just what they see.”

A physical beauty he might be, but he’s also got brains… Much to the surprise, it seems, of many.

“Those I meet in training are normally shocked to hear that I’m a scientist,” he starts. “They’re surprised I have a PHD and that I work with dinosaurs; something of which I continue to research even now.

“And then there’s the other side if people thinking and saying I shouldn’t like sports having come from a scientific background. Why is that? Why can’t the stereotype of someone being intelligent, into dinosaurs and this level of fitness exist on a slightly more regular basis?
