L ow-level south London crim Mark (Bradley Taylor) is out of prison after a six-year stretch and trying to go straight for the sake of his family. Until, of course, he gets sucked back in by his boss (Frank Harper). True, writer/director Will Thorne’s debut doesn’t sound fiercely original, but appearances can be deceptive. Between Taylor’s grim charisma, some crafty support (Joel Fry, Cary Crankson) and a ballsy plot that successfully upends the ‘one last job’ premise, Silent Night mercilessly hits the spot.
