Following recent approval by Japan’s Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB), All Nippon Airways has become the world’s first carrier to implement Mixed Fleet Flying (MFF) for pilots between the Airbus A320 and A380. Consequently, crews on these can operate both types on a “regular and concurrent basis” enabling them to fly mixed patterns of long-and short-haul services. According to the airframer, MFF is possible thanks to a “unique level of technical commonality between Airbus fly-by-wire aircraft”. In other news, ANA has received its third and final super jumbo, JA383A (c/n 266), which has a stunning, orange-themed turtle livery.
Korean Air is resuming flights to the holiday hotspot of Hawaii, following a 19-month, COVID-induced route suspension. From November 3, the South Korean flag carrier has scheduled a thrice-weekly Seoul/ Incheon-Honolulu service (KE 053/054) on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Bosses at the airline attributed the move to increased travel demand, with the amount of South Korean tourists visiting the US state increasing from 200 in January 2021, to a current 1,000 per month. Prior to COVID, the link was served by Korean Air twice-daily.
