American Miniaturist  |  Issue 217
As I read through each AM article I am always excited to discover a new technique. In this issue I was intrigued by Catherine Jones’ wood floor technique. It actually reminded me of the time I painted small damaged areas on my full scale wood floor with oil paints. I matched the wood grain perfectly, but because I was too impatient to wait for the oil paint to fully dry, and varnished over it too soon. All of my detailing turned to mud. In my miniature art I never rush things, so it was a lesson learned to be patient when creating in any scale. You absolutely cannot be a miniaturist without patience. Special yoga breathing techniques are required while setting a miniature table with dishes and silverware. Patience is key when you have to pick up the same tiny fork from the dollhouse floor with tweezers three times to get it placed perfectly in its position next to the dinner plate. Once you surrender yourself to the calm, arranging your mini scene can be very relaxing. Your only focus is the task at hand and any troubles outside of that tiny room vanish. Once you finish placing everything ‘just so’ and sit back and enjoy the scene, you feel lighter and ready to take on real life. Be sure to read every word in each issue of AM. There are hidden tips in every article as well as great advice on being a miniaturist!
